Joan Simon is curator-at-large for the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York. She is a writer, curator, editor and arts administrator based in Paris, France and has worked independently for museums, foundations and publishers in the United States and in Europe. A former managing editor of Art in America (1974-83), Simon has published extensively on contemporary art. Among her books and catalogues are Ann Hamilton (2002), Susan Rothenberg (1991) and William Wegman: Funney/Strange (2006). She has contributed to publications on Gordon Matta-Clark, Rosemarie Trockel, Jenny Holzer, Fred Sandback and Joan Jonas, among others, and served as general editor of the exhibition catalogue and catalogue raisonné Bruce Nauman.
