Victoria Sambunaris received her MFA from Yale University in 1999. Each year, she structures her life around a photographic journey crossing the American landscape. She is currently following the U.S./Mexican border and photographing the intersection of geology, politics, and culture along this volatile international boundary. Sambunaris has received fellowships from the Center for Land Use Interpretation and the Lannan Foundation. Her work is in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art, the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, the National Gallery of Art, Washington, D.C., the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, and the Lannan Foundation.
